B. Matthew’s Eatery Makes Dinner Casual
Brian Huskey, owner of this downtown restaurant, is changing the restaurant’s dinner menu to more casual fare.
Regulars will recognize several of the restaurant’s more popular dishes — the Black-Eyed Pea Cake, B. Matthew’s Big Salad and Wild Mushroom Strudel.
On the new menu, I’m anxious to try appetizers like Sausage Trio: sweet bistro, Andouille and mild Italian sausage with pickled red onion, grain mustard and crusty bread ($8); and the Duck Quesadilla with goat cheese, roasted red peppers and grilled pineapple salsa ($8).
On the entree side Grilled Chicken Lasagna looks very interesting. In this dish, layers of chicken, spinach and mushrooms, three cheeses and a white wine garlic sauce combine for B. Matthew’s take on this classic Italina recipe. Served with a grilled baguette ($15). Blackened Redfish with smoked salmon, Idaho and sweet potato hash and lemon chive butter ($16) is heads above most local sefaood entrees.
Sample the best of the Big Easy with Chef Jeffrey Crumpton’s take onRed Beans and Rice with smoked sausage, greens and cheddar jalapeno cornbread ($14) or Seafood Gumbo — a big bowl of our authentic Cajun recipe stocked with shrimp, crab, salmon, okra, celery, onions, peppers, spices and topped with pickled red onions ($10)
Hmmm, I’m seeing a decidedly New Orleans theme emerging…particularly when I look back to the sandwich menu and spy a muffaletta and a shrimp Po’ Boy.
Half price bottles of wine will continue on Tuesday night and service now extends all day — no “blackout” in the afternoon!
