American Grille’s comfort foods could use a tune-up

It has become more and more difficult to find a meat-and-three lunch on the Southside.
Sure, ubiquitous chains serve up monster-sized portions and Americanized ethnic-sounding dishes, but rib-sticking, heart-warming chow is as rare as hitting every Abercorn Street traffic light on green.
But last week, I discovered the American Grille, serving three meals a day just off the lobby of the Hilton Garden Inn.
Two hallmarks of good dining are lots of tractor-trailers in the parking lot – or several police cars. Our hard working law enforcement folks need quick service and dependable food to keep their crime fighting skills fueled.
There were lots off police officers in the American Grille – or else several folks who took Georgia’s new hand gun law to heart.
My friend David joined me for lunch. He’s a veteran of mom-and-pop eateries and black ops – the perfect guy to go incognito for critical dining missions. He suggested khaki pants and sports shirts would be fine – no black silk pajamas would be required.
