The Distillery is Brewing Up Plenty of Buzz Among Diners and Craft Beer Fans

[singlepic=36,320,240,,left]New life has been breathed into this high profile downtown building at 416 W. Liberty St. The Distillery, a restaurant and bar specializing in American craft beer, has barely been open two weeks — and already feels like home to many patrons.

The restaurant’s tightly constructed menu is built around made-to-order, fresh foods. Beer, of course, plays heavily into many recipes — from chili to beer-battered onion rings to French fries flavored in Stout.

With 21 beers on tap and more than 30 in bottles, The Distillery offers beers ranging from bright and hoppy to dark and rich. Weekend nights offer live music and owner Michael Volen says we should stay tuned for other entertainment as well. On non-sports days, the big screen TVs play vintage black and white silent moves.

Kudos to Volen and his staff for a beautiful restoration and reuse of a great building — and for putting together such an exciting and flavorful new addition to the Savannah restaurant scene. For more information call 236-1772.

    Chef Matt has defined the perfect tartar sauce in my opinion. Though I’m a self-described “beer guy” I’d go here for just the shrimp and the hamburger. The food here is a giant step past most bar food.

    Had a great time at The Distillery this weekend. We especially loved the music on Saturday night. Try one of the beer samplers….

    When I took my family there our meals came before our apps (which we didnt get everything we ordered). The food we did get was totally under seasoned. AAAAnd there were metal shavings in my coleslaw that I nearly broke a tooth on!!

    The waitress told me “oh he knew what it was, he tossed out the batch” after I told her there were metal shavings in my food. Baffling.

    We got nothing comped! They even charged us for the stuff they didnt bring out and my metal slaw!

    it ALSO would have been nice for them to tell us they were having some kind of singles mixer at 6pm when we reserved our table and there would be some dude talking on a microphone and making lame jokes about republicans while were trying to eat- AND that theyd be out of like 2 of 5 entrees because that group had a buffet going.

    One of my worst experiences as a diner ever, anywhere, and really I’m pretty forgiving- it could have been saved by an attentive waitress, but she could not have cared less.

    In response to T;

    My name is Chris Hubbard and I am the General Manager at the Distillery. I am deeply concerned to read about your experience and I would love to get some more information from you regarding the event. I apologize sincerely for failing a patron such as yourself on the night mentioned. If you read this I hope you contact me and can give me more information so I can work harder at making our restaurant a place you would like to come back to. Again, I am profoundly sorry and disappointed that anyone could be treated in such a way under my supervision. Thanks for your honesty.
